Gavin Struthers is Intel Security's new Asia-Pacific president. He formerly served the company as Intel Security senior vice-president of worldwide channel operations, and has since moved up the ranks.
Struthers replaces Andrew Littleproud, who held the title for a little over two years. As president for Intel Security Asia-Pacific, Struthers will be in charge of the division’s business operations across Asia, India, and A/NZ.
Intel Security is currently working on filling the senior vice-president of worldwide channel operations role, and more details of this appointment will be released at a later date.
Prior to Intel Security, Struthers worked for McAfee, which now comes under the Intel Security umbrella. There, he held various job titles across his 12-year tenure, including the vice-president of channels, alliances and specialist sales (Asia-Pacific); regional director (A/NZ) and enterprise sales director (A/NZ) positions.
Struthers believes his former experience within the Asia-Pacific region will come in handy for this new role.
”The region is rife with opportunity… and my goal is to help Intel Security become our customer’s [top] security partner. We have good momentum in our Asia-Pacific business and the intention is to continue that growth,” he said.
One of the key areas Struthers mentioned he will look into from a channel lens is how the market is changing and how customers are consuming security in a different way. As a result, he claimed the company will need new types of partnerships to help it deliver security to customers.
One of them, in particular, will be around consulting and professional services, and managed security services.
“That’s a growth area for the industry. You’ve seen service providers and telcos start their play in that space, so I’ll be looking for strategic partnerships with focused players in the managed services and services area.
“Traditional VARs are focused on pre-sales and product resell but there’s more opportunity to have security post-sales, consulting and services. So identifying the right services partners in Asia-Pacific would be one of my top goals,” he added.
Struthers will be based in the company’s Singapore office.
“Running an Asia-Pacific business, you want to be in Asia and since my job scope involves running the whole region excluding Japan, it’s just a more practical location to be based in,” he mentioned.
