Destra becomes stepping-stone in global network

The web hosting arm of ASX-listed Destra,, has struck a deal with San Francisco-based Scale Eight to become the Australian node of its worldwide data network.

The agreement gives exclusive rights to resell access to Scale Eight’s network, which offers increased speed for streaming large media files because of its geographical spread and set-up.

The service fits nicely with Destra’s music interests which include Australia’s largest digital rights management (DRM) provider, Wired Entertainment (WIE). WIE handles the digital distribution and storage of music for the likes of Universal Music, EMI, Warner and BMG, amongst others, and transacted around half a million streams last quarter, according to Destra CEO, Domenic Carosa.

Carosa said will also provide Scale Eight’s international content and caching services to its hosting client base.

“We expect a small number of high dollar value customers to take advantage of the service – those with large media files that they want to move around,” he said. joins Scale Eight’s growing customer base, which includes the Microsoft Network, MTV Networks and Fujitsu’s PFU Group, in North America, Asia, Australia and Europe.

Carosa said itself was moving more towards international ventures such as Wired Entertainment (WIE) to grow its customer base.
