Mint Wireless has appointed Peter Wright as an independent non-executive director to its board beginning immediately.
Wright will operate as a senior payments executive in the new role at the mobile payments and transaction processing company.
Mint chairman, Terry Cuthbertson, said Wright brings a wealth of experience in the Asia pacific (APAC) payments sector to the team.
“He has held senior leadership roles and has a long and established track record in the markets Mint currently operates.”
Wright has over 35 years experience in finance and payments, mainly in Australia. He has also worked across APAC, North America and Europe.
During the last five years, Wright served as president of APAC for OmniPay Limited, an Irish-based subsidiary of First Data Corporation.
Mint general manager, Bjorn Behrendt, told ARN the appointment was made to execute the strategy laid out at the company’s annual general meeting held on 24 November 2014.
“We want to grow the business in the Australian market and also into APAC. In addition, there is the new strategy to build out our current offerings around our card present platform. That’s where Peter comes in with his experience and the network he brings to the table.”
Wright said he has observed significant changes in the payments market, particularly over the past two years in mobile payments.
