Microsoft announces Mac 'trifecta'

The Macintosh Business Unit at Microsoft Tuesday announced three new initiatives that it's hoping will continue to draw Macintosh users to its OS X product offerings.

The company is turning its "Office Party" promotion, which expired at the end of December, into an "Office Romance" by offering new Mac buyers an opportunity to buy Office v. X for US$199 when they buy both together. Comparable deals are running in Canada, Japan and Australia, and all expire on April 7, 2003.

What's more, Microsoft noted that Apple Computer will preinstall its Microsoft Office v. X Test Drive -- a demo version of its suite of applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Entourage -- on all new Macs shipping in 2003. It's the first time that Apple has preinstalled an Office Test Drive on Macs.
