SAP bags Microsoft Cloud leader as its chief technology officer

Replacement for Vishal Sikka finally announced

SAP has hired Microsoft Azure vice-president Quentin Clark as its chief technology officer.

SAP said Clark will "drive direction and vision of SAP's future technology" and "shape SAP's brand as a technology leader". Clark will report to Bernd Leukert, member of the SAP executive board for products and innovation, and will be based in Palo Alto, California.

In his role as corporate vice-president of Microsoft's Data Platform Group, Clark was responsible for the design and delivery of Microsoft's data processing products. SAP said he led the development of the Microsoft data products into the cloud, delivering the first wave of Microsoft Azure products.

Prior to becoming Microsoft corporate vice president, he held various roles in Microsoft's product development from 1994.

Clark will now help push SAP's Cloud-based Hana Big Data processing products in the market.

Leukert said of Clark: "He is not only an impressive technologist who thrives on pursuing a meaningful vision, but at the same time is also a passionate leader.

"He enjoys taking a full view of business, technology, product, team and customers. I am sure that Quentin will significantly contribute to shaping and executing our technology strategy and turning opportunities into innovation for our customers."

Vishal Sikka was appointed as SAP's first CTO in 2007. In May this year, Sikka, who was then SAP executive board member for products and innovation, announced his departure from the SAP board for "personal reasons". He reemerged as CEO and managing director of global IT outsourcer Infosys the following month.
