ACS youth festival, YITCON14, kicks off in Melbourne

Two-day festival highlights the importance of developing innovative skills for the future

The Australian Computer Society (ACS) is holding a two-day youth festival of ICT, ACS YITCON14, in Melbourne today and tomorrow.

The festival brings together students and young professionals interested in ICT careers, to learn from industry experts and world-class presenters about leading edge technological change and the digital future.

With a theme of Changing Minds, the conference highlights the importance of developing innovative skills for the future, and the evolving nature of the ICT eco-system.

Speakers on day one include: ACS CEO, Alan Patterson; Victorian Minister for Technology, Gordon Rich-Phillips; Managing Director of ExTo Partners, William Deane, whose company invests in early stage Australian businesses; Sheng Yeo, Founder of OrionVM, the developer of disruptive Cloud DC platform; Woolworths CIO, Clive Whincup; CBA GM of Cyber Security, Privacy & Operational Risk, Ben Heyes, who will speak on cyberspace, open possibilities and a front-row seat; and Ross Dawson, Leading Futurist, on the skills needed for jobs in the future.

Friday's speakers include: Deloitte's Coert Du Plessis, on Digital Disruption; Gabe Zichermann, Founder of; Developer Evangelist at PayPal and Braintree, Steven Cooper; and Naomi Henn, serial entrepreneur, whose ventures include TapIn, an SAAS drag and drop platform to build your own apps for events.

The event is being led at the Forum in Flinders St, Melbourne.
