With the change in the different types of users hitting commercial websites, Micro Focus is seeing a growing demand for peak-load testing of Cloud applications.
APAC Borland architect, Jeff Findlay, said the advent of mobile devices has also made it difficult for businesses to identify what the peak-load is going to be.
“Businesses need to make sure that the service, environment and infrastructure can withstand the peak-load, particularly in the retail, finance or commercial sectors,” he said.
Findlay adds performance testing has now “shifted left” in the development cycle, which means it is being introduced much earlier in the creation process.
“This is to try and make sure when they do the final peak load scenarios, they know the application code works,” he said.
Maintaining the up-time
With business continually becoming digitised, Findlay said organisations can not afford to experience any disruption in up-time.
“Not only does it damage the reputation, but it has a knock-on effect,” he said,
An Equation Research report found that 74 per cent of people who do not get a four second response from a web page do not come back.
“You have a very mature audience who are so familiar with fast response times from their social network sites, and their expectation is that all systems should respond as quickly as they do there,” he said.
Regardless of what a traditional service-level agreement (SLA) used to be for a website in the past, Findlay said the end-user “has their own set of expectations and the business simply has to respond to that.”
