Dot-com boom lives on in Alphatise’s internship program

Local start-up marks its beginning by offering what it calls the “world’s best internship.”

Local start-up, Alphatise, is marking its debut by offering a $100,000 employment package to a university recruit.

The social commerce marketplace is looking for an intern that will work at Alphatise for 12 months, in that time learning more about the business and its potential global expansion.

Co-founder, Ben Nowlan, said the Sydney-based company already has a team of 33 employees and is continually growing.

“This is an exciting time for someone to join our team and be a part of a new venture,” he said.

Candidates are required to create a profile and upload a 60-second video, which will then need to gain votes to impress Nowlan and co-founders Paul Pearson and Richard Frey.

“We’re looking for someone that is keen to learn how our business will empower shoppers as well as bring some fresh, digitally-driven thinking to mix,” Nowlan said.

Providing a way in

Successful applicant will not only receive $50,000 in salary and $50,000 in Alphatise shares, but also a brand new Nissan Juke, notebook PC and a mobile phone on the 12-month contract.

Nowlan said the internship program provides an opportunity to a lucky individual to develop their individual skills.

“Whether it’s sales and marketing or being part of our world-class technology development team, we’ll help to make that happen for them,” he said.

Nowlan expects the on-the-job training aspect of the internship to be the most beneficial for a new recruit.

“Australia is currently suffering a youth-unemployment crisis, and university students are arguably emerging from their degrees without the skillset needed to meet the needs of the businesses from the get-go,” he said.
