The Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA) has handed out accolades to businesses that have both innovated and shown examples of adding real business benefits to their clients as part of this year's iAwards.
Award categories were divided between companies that excelled at implementations of new IT systems, companies that innovated in the development of new technology, and companies that enjoyed export success.
Among the winners in the implementation category was Bay Technologies, for its work in implementing a national call centre system for the Civil Aviation Safety Authority. Bay won a MEC2001 award from Microsoft for the implementation earlier this year. "With an international and a national award for this implementation, we'll be keen to grab the Queensland award and make it a clean sweep," said an excited John Brizee, director of Bay Technologies.
Brizee said submissions to the implementation category required an example of discernible, positive business outcomes for the client. "In the case of CASA, we are able to prove the marked improvements our technology had on their processes," he said.
ASX-listed software developer Mincom also had a win in the innovation category. Mincom's MineStar system, developed in conjunction with several mining-centric enterprises, won the software award after the developer was able to demonstrate productivity gains of around 15 per cent at several installed sites around the world.
Winner of the International award and the Minister's Award for Excellence was Proximity, a developer of hardware and software solutions for the film and television vertical, which earns over 90 per cent of its revenues from export sales.
