Telstra renews Service Stream wireless construction contract

"Extension represents continuation of the very strong working relationship," Service Stream MD, Leigh Mackender

Telstra has renewed its wireless construction contract with NBN contractor, Service Stream, in a two-year extension.

Under the contract, Service Stream provides services on a national basis relating to the upgrade of the base state stations and the construction of new base stations for the Telstra wireless network.

Service Stream managing director, Leigh Mackender, said the extension represented a continuation of the very strong working relationship between Service Stream and Telstra.

"This is now the third consecutive renewal of this important contract," he said.

This follows Service Stream being awarded three separate Telstra contracts totalling $135 million, earlier this week.

Service Stream chief financial officer, Bob Grant, said each of the contracts were arguably “smallish, relatively speaking”.

The first is a new two-year fibre-to-the-premises for commercial estates contract with an estimated value of $30 million.

It will see Service Stream installing new communications services to commercial estates for Telstra. The services provider won the contract in a competitive tender.

The second is a renewed asset relocation and commercial works contract which Service Stream maintained for more than 10 years, according to Grant. The three-year extension is worth approximately $55 million, and involves relocation services of Telstra assets when required.

It has also renewed its site acquisition, environment and design contract on a two-year extension valued at $50 million.

The contract refers to the first phase of a telco’s mobile infrastructure expansion, Grant said.

It includes identifying a rooftop or piece of land on which a new mobile tower will go; doing a deal with the land owner; getting all appropriate permits and design.
