CipherCloud launches Cloud Discovery in burgeoning Aussie market

CipherCloud enlists two of Australia's largest four banks as customers: Paige Leidig

Cloud security firm CipherCloud has enabled granular visiblity into Cloud applications used by employees with the launch of Cloud Discovery.

The new offering allows IT professionals to discover, analyse and risk score more than 3,000 cloud applications across recognised enterprise categories, such as CRM, collaboration and productivity.

In seconds, the Cloud Discovery engine analyses firewall and proxy logs to provide streamlined visibility into all cloud applications in use across the organisation and corresponding risk ratings. Adding these discovery capabilities to CipherCloud’s cloud security controls delivers a powerful combination for protecting data from risks in the cloud.

CipherCloud chief marketing officer, Paige Leidig told ARN the company had picked up two of Australia's largest four banks as clients, as well as the country's largest medical insurance company.

"We think this product is simply going to take off dramatically," he said.

"We have had tremendous growth in customers in Australia. It's our fastest growing region.

"We have had strong penetration in financial services, insurance and government and we expect to see more that sort of growth in 2014."

CipherCloud for Cloud Discovery enables enterprises to discover all of the cloud applications that are being used by organisation.

The tool highlights most-used and high-risk cloud applications based on user access and volume. Customers can identify high risk cloud applications based on a range of security metrics, understand level of usage and decide to take action where necessary.

CipherCloud chief executive and founder, Pravin Kothari, said raising the bar for cloud information protection required security to be in lock step with visibility.

“Insight into cloud applications usage helps companies create intelligent data protection and user monitoring strategies," he said.

According to a company statement, the offering enables customers to retain full control over their sensitive audit logs as opposed to other cloud-based approaches that require enterprises to send their audit logs to third parties.

It provides the ability for administrators to output data in a range of formats through the use of Splunk – a popular and widely deployed enterprise technology.

Cloud Discovery supports an open, standards-based approach for assessing cloud application risk and provides the ability to enhance the risk knowledge base by leveraging crowd-sourced input from customers.
