Australian software company, simPRO, is changing the way tradies do business, and has sparked a surge in owners working remotely.
The firm, which has operations in Australia, New Zealand, and the UK, has developed a cloud-based job management system that is driving an expansion in the number of trade contractors managing companies remotely, or even from different countries.
The simPRO Software Enterprise product automates the management of scheduling, ordering and invoicing operations for trade contractors including, electricians and plumbers that used to require an extensive back office.
Casalite Electrics owner, Paul Christie, used the system to help him realise his dream of travelling the US with his family – while continuing to run a 30-year-old business on the Sunshine Coast.
Christie said his family headed to the US and Canada for an extended holiday. The family travelled over 30,000 kilometres in an RV.
“I’ve always been into RVs and buses and we decided to do it for three months,” he said.
“After three months, I thought, why can’t we do it for nine? And that’s what we did. We did 27 states.”
Paul said staying on top of his business was not a problem, provided a good internet connection was available.
“You need to think, ‘Right, I’ve put the processes in place, the software is doing its thing, my business manager is taking care of everything, and now I can step back’.
“All of our workers go to each job with an iPad and are able to access everything they need.
“The software ensures no leads are lost, job progression is monitored and each job is invoiced on time.”
The company’s business management software is used by more than 500 companies in Queensland and 1000 elsewhere including the UK and US.
