Equinix Australia boss leaves to lead Avaya A/NZ

Industry veteran to continue vendor’s enterprise drive while pushing mid-market forward

Anthony Simonsen will leave his post at Equinix Australia to take over as Avaya Australia and New Zealand (A/NZ) managing director from April 7.

Simonsen’s appointment follows the departure of former Avaya A/NZ boss, Tim Gentry, who left the unified communications (UC) vendor’s local operations for an opportunity within the company’s US business.

According to a statement, Simonsen was hired to focus on driving Avaya’s business in both the enterprise market and its rapidly-growing commercial segment across the region.

“In searching for the right leader to drive our business in A/NZ to new heights, we were focused on candidates with a clearly demonstrable track record of significant and sustained success in the technology sector,” Avaya Asia-Pacific president, Mike Muller, said.

“Simonsen has all the credentials, knowledge and leadership skills to take our business forward strongly.”

Simonsen joins Avaya with more than 20 years of management experience in multiple roles across both A/NZ and the wider APAC geography.

He is currently finishing a two-year stint as Australian managing director for datacentre specialist, Equinix, where he delivered significant year-over-year (YoY) growth in revenue and earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA).

Prior to that he spent four years with document and shipping technology vendor, Pitney Bowes, where he held two roles: A/NZ managing director, and APAC, Middle East, Africa and Latin America enterprise vice-president.

His career has also seen him with EMC, Allied Technologies, Cisco, and Wang Australia.
