Telstra has expanded its executive committee with the appointment of Mark Buckman and Mike Wright as managing directors of its media and marketing, and networks groups, respectively.
Both will join the telecommunications provider’s executive group which supports the chief executive officer (CEO) leadership team in determining and pursuing the company’s strategic goals.
Buckman takes over Telstra’s media and marketing group from Rick Ellis, who will leave the telco once the majority sale of Sensis moves under the Platinum Equity Group umbrella.
His role will also be expanded to include all of Telstra’s brand and digital media growth activities.
Buckman joined Telstra in late 2010 as chief marketing officer (CMO), and took on further responsibilities in 2013 as digital media and IPTV executive director.
Wright, who has been with the telco for 33 years, will continue to report to operations group executive, Kate McKenzie, in his new position. He is recognise by the company as a leading international network engineer who oversaw the creation of its 4G mobile network.
Telstra CEO, David Thodey, thanked the departing Ellis for his contributions, crediting him with expanding the telco’s media credentials and relationships with key partners and stakeholders, including Foxtel and sporting organisation.
Ellis came to Telstra in January in 2012, and has been with the company through what it calls an important period of consolidation.
