Multi-national online ‘urban guide’ Yelp has enlisted Fusion-io to accelerate its datacentre infrastructure with the firm’s Flash memory solutions.
The implementation of Fusion-io’s enterprise flash memory has helped the Yelp engineering team ensure that its 120 million users can find local restaurants, boutiques and other businesses quickly.
Flash makes it fast for Yelp to deliver value-added services, such as ordering from directly within the Yelp mobile application, fueling commerce through rapid database transactions.
Installing Fusion-io memory into its datacentres gives Yelp the headroom to scale performance as user base and reviews databases continue to expand, providing flexible support for growth.
It also enabled the Yelp engineering team to prolong the lifespan of the company’s existing datacentre infrastructure, producing an immediate return on the company’s flash investment, according to a company statement.
Fusion-io executive vice president, Ian Whiting, said customers turned to Yelp to search for a new restaurant because of the excellent experience it provided across all digital platforms.
“Fusion-io is proud to support Yelp’s outstanding team in delivering information that users around the world trust to help them decide where they want to spend their time and money,” he said.
In addition to reviews, Yelp also provides services such as in-app ordering, localised event calendars, lists and messaging services.
It had more than 120 million unique monthly visitors to mobile web and app in Q4 2013.
