IDS snares SmartOptics A/NZ distributorship

IDS has also signed a distributorship with storage virtualisation company DataCore

Independent Data Solutions has inked a deal with Norway-based datacentre connectivity solutions firm SmartOptics to become the sole distributor of its wavelength division multiplexing solutions in A/NZ.

The Australian value-added distributor, which was founded in 2004, now has offices in Sydney, Brisbane and Canberra and is close to expanding to Melbourne.

IDS has also signed a distributorship with storage virtualisation company DataCore and lists tier one resellers Fujitsu, Datacom, Data#3, Di Data, Hitachi, Fujitsu and AlphaWest on it’s books.

“We doubled our revenue last year and we expect to do the same again this year,” IDS director Ian Deane said.

“We are an expanding company. Two years ago we were unheard of, now the big boys are sitting up and listening.”

SmartOptics provides innovative, cost effective optical transmission solutions for data centre connectivity, and for any organisation with access to dark fibre and the need to transmit data signals between sites.

SmartOptics international sales director, Sean Davies, said the announcement regularised what has until now been an informal but highly successful relationship between IDS and ourselves.

“Thanks to IDS, we have enjoyed an increasing level of market penetration here and look forward to taking our relationship to the next level as we continue to build on our successes.”

Deane said government agencies in Canberra had been prominent users of the high speed/ low cost SmartOptics option for a number of years, taking advantage of the extremely short return on their optical transmission investments.

“IDS customers Australia-wide have also been keen to take advantage of the technical and commercial benefits the SmartOptics solution delivers,” he said.

“The solution reduces complexity and enables the highly efficient data centre connectivity which is critical to business continuity.”
