Megaport launches network-as-a-service customer portal

Telecommunications start-up offers connection speeds up to 10,000Mbps to local customers

Megaport has launched its network-as-a-service customer portal, Megaportal, in Australia.

The solution allows businesses and carriers to create and manage on-demand elastic connections to Megaport’s Cloud and service provider partners.

The telecommunications start-up has billed the solution as Australia’s first network-as-a-service self-service portal.

Chief executive officer at Megaport, Bevan Slattery, said carriers and organisations have only had the choice of rigid long term contracts with capacity constraints until now.

“Compute and storage has been available on a per-day and month basis, but there has not been similar access to networking services,” he said.

Turning elastic

Slattery said the attraction behind the service is that it allows the elastic connections to be set for as short as a day and as long as a year, in real-time and without the need for any oversight.

“This is the power of Megaportal when combined with Megaport’s fully automated Elastic Connectivity Platform,” he said.

Megaportal is accessible for $20 for a single day, and offers connections ranging from 100Mbps up to 10,000Mbps between Megaport and another participant.

Slattery said users can do this from anywhere in the world via a web browser, and dedicated iOS and Android apps are expected to go live soon.
