NBN Co exec departs ahead of new review

Chief marketing officer Kieren Cooney will leave company ahead of the new CEO's arrival

Comments

NBN Co’s chief marketing officer Kieren Cooney is set to step down after more than two years in the job.

Cooney’s decision to resign was announced in an internal staff memo which revealed there is an impending review of marketing and communications within NBN Co.

Cooney, who joined NBN Co after leaving Telecom NZ in 2011, will step down on February 28, about a month before the arrival of the company’s new CEO, former Vodafone Hutchison Australia chief executive, Bill Morrow.

The review will be initiated upon Morrow’s arrival.

He will be temporarily replaced by head of product and sales, John Simon, who will take the additional responsibilities as acting CMO immediately.

Cooney memorably raised the ire of former communications minister Stephen Conroy at a Senate Select committee hearing.

Conroy accused Cooney of attempting to close down the hearing by asking whether there was quorum (the minimum number of people to make the proceedings of that meeting valid).
