Kaspersky Labs Strengthens its Agreement with Time Group

 • 06 November, 2003 15:26

Kaspersky Labs announced today that it has signed an agreement with Time Group, Europe's largest computer operation, to pre-install Kaspersky Anti-Hacker on many of Time's PCs distributed through retail channels.

Earlier this year Kaspersky Labs announced that Kaspersky Anti-Virus would be pre-installed on Time's PCs and now with the addition of Kaspersky Anti-Hacker, Time's customers are afforded with superior protection against electronic attack.

With the advent of Broadband and the increasing exploitation of vulnerabilities within applications and operating systems in order to attack PCs, anti-virus software is no longer enough to protect the home user. In order to ensure protection from outside attack users need to be able to prevent unauthorised access to files and other resources, in addition to controlling which applications have access to the internet.

Dr. Tariq Mohammed, Marketing Director of Time Group comments, "Having already established a very good relationship with Kaspersky Labs and received positive feedback from our customers about Kaspersky Anti-Virus, it made sense to include Kaspersky Anti-Hacker and offer our users a security package that will protect them against today's threats."

Kaspersky Labs recently announced the latest version of its personal firewall Kaspersky Anti-Hacker Version 1.5, which has a significantly improved interface, including XP style for computers running under Windows XP. Users can now define a range of ports within the packet filtration rules, as well as data filtration in applications, which allows them to set one rule for a whole group of potentially dangerous IP addresses. Moreover, the solution now detects new network attacks, such as SmbDie and Helkern/Slammer and supports ADSL modems.

"We are pleased to further expand our relationship with Time Group and their customers," says Sveta Ivanova, Managing Director of Kaspersky Labs UK. "Protection for home users is becoming even more important as broadband takes off in the UK. Many users are not aware of the TCP/IP ports that are left open on their machine by default, attracting and providing easy access to hackers with potentially disastrous effects. Kaspersky Anti-Hacker not only prevents access, but makes these ports invisible from the Internet. "
