US storage company makes Australian play

To set up Melbourne HQ which will serve as its technical hub for APAC

California-based flash-based storage platform, Tintri Zero Management Storage, is making a move into the Australian market, with the company set to open a local headquarters in Melbourne.

The office will focus on sales, pre-sales engineering, marketing, and channel management, becoming the company’s technical support centre for the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region.

According to Tintri vice-president, Peter Molloy, Melbourne was selected as location-of-choice due to its reputation as the home of IT startup ventures.

“Melbourne has always been a city where strong innovation and adoption of new technologies has thrived and is home to many large organisations that could benefit from disruptive technology,” Molloy said.

He also commended the city’s freight and distribution services which he claims simplify the movement of product.

Tintri’s move is welcomed by the Victorian Coalition Government as it will create up to 30 high-value strategic ICT jobs in Victoria, and further contribute to the growth and development of the state’s industry.

“The move to set up operations in Melbourne is a welcome addition to Victoria’s dynamic ICT landscape, which is home to many large organisations that could benefit from Tintri’s unique application-aware storage platforms,” Minister for Technology, Gordon Rich-Phillips, said.

Tintri manufactures storage products for virtualised and Cloud environments. Its flagship product is VMstore which the company claims is built on the first VM-Aware storage architecture.

Tintri finished 2013 with 115 per cent growth and more than doubled its global customer base, according to a statement. The vendor is planning an IPO for 2015 following a round of capital raising which amounted to $US75 million, taking the total to $US135m, and bringing the company’s value to $US600m.
