Vodafone 4G goes live in Canberra

Accelerated LTE expansion to commence from March

Comments

Telecommunications provider, Vodafone, has switched on its 4G network in Canberra, more than eight months after its initial Australian launch in July last year.

The telco’s 4G now covers parts of Acton, Civic, Crace, Downer, Franklin, Greenway, Harrison, Latham, Lyneham, Mitchell, Reid, Tuggeranon, and Turner, marking the first stage of what it calls a “comprehensive LTE rollout in Canberra.”

A Vodafone spokesperson told ARN that today’s announcement “comes after switching on a significant amount of sites” although was unable to reveal further details as to the locations of the additions.

The spokesperson did reveal that the telco “will step up this rollout in the months ahead,” with accelerated 4G coverage expansion expected to occur from March.

Late last month Vodafone revealed it reached the one million device mark, attributing the growth to its high-quality, 1800MHz spectrum which chief marketing officer (CMO), Kim Clarke, claims is capable of managing large volumes of traffic while maintaining data speeds.
