Crown Castle Expands into Broadcast Infrastructure

<p>Crown Castle International today announced the Company has entered into an agreement with WorldAudio Limited, (ASX:WAG), to utilise a number of Crown Castle’s sites to deploy the infrastructure for a commercial AM radio broadcast network across Australia.</p>
<p>The agreement will see WorldAudio expand rapidly from its current single commercial radio station, Radio 2 1611AM “The New Voice of Sydney’s West” in Western Sydney broadcasting to some 2.5 million potential listeners into a nationwide AM commercial broadcast network under the Radio 2 brand with a potential population reach of 12 million [all ages].</p>
<p>Commenting on the announcement, Mr Udhay Mathialagan, Director of Strategic Development at Crown Castle said, “The agreement with WorldAudio is another milestone in our strategy to increase the utilisation of our existing infrastructure. In developing a unique solution for the rollout of the network, the company has applied innovation to solving both the commercial and technical issues.”</p>
<p>He added, “Crown Castle already serves leading broadcasters in the UK and has a depth of experience in the broadcast sector with the rollout of Digital Radio for the BBC, and other clients such as Virgin Radio. We will be using that experience to assist in the further development of our broadcasting business in Australia.”</p>
<p>Chief Executive Officer, Andrew Peter Thompson of WorldAudio said, “We have completed an aggressive timetable for our national rollout and now have 15 transmission sites operational and located in every state and territory Australia-wide.”</p>
<p>Presently, Radio 2 1611AM serves Sydney’s West providing local and national news, entertainment, lifestyle and sports content. Targeted at the 30plus demographic, Radio 2 has a strong management and on air team that includes well known Australian radio personalities such as Mike Bailey, Gary Jaeger and Ian MacRae.</p>
<p>TVNZ (Australia) Pty Ltd are the contract engineering project managers for the rollout with Crown Castle delivering a local footprint for WorldAudio.</p>
