Rapid evolution of IT makes industry forecasting difficult: Citrix

Cloud and virtualisation vendor expects organisations to adopt new disciplines to deal with industry change

The rate of change in the IT industry continues to surprise those involved in it, to the point where Citrix said it is hard to guess what will happen next.

Strategy and communications director at the Cloud and virtualisation vendor, Andrew Dent, characterises the present state of the IT industry as the “age of surprise.”

“We have entered what we call an age where it becomes very difficult to anticipate what will happen next,” he said.

In order to thrive in this age, Dent said organisations need to “develop disciplines” to speedily adjust to this evolution.

That includes harnessing relationships with customers and employees, mining and extracting value from information, think deeply about the design of products, and automating the provisioning of IT systems.

Changing times

As for how Citrix fits into this ever changing IT landscape, Dent said the approach is a continuation of what the vendor has done over the last five years.

“We have helped drive the industry transaction from the PC to the Cloud era,” he said.

Having already experienced significant momentum to this point, Dent said the pace of this transition will only increase in the coming months as the “world moves onto the Cloud.”
