As part of the ICT Services Scheme, the NSW Government has hired Housley Consulting as independent broker to assist public sector agencies with telecommunications services purchasing decisions.
According to Minister for Finances and Services, Andrew Constance, the agreement intends to ensure agencies have an informed buyer capability.
“Housley Consulting has been engaged to review pricing, vendor offers and help agencies focus on achieving value for money,” Constance said.
The appointment is a major step towards the Government’s ICT Strategy’s aim of reforming ICT procurement.
Constance claims the NSW Government has already provided savings of almost 11 per cent or $3.3 million for taxpayers with its review of whole-of-government telco contracts.
“Our approach to negotiating future contracts will encourage providers to deliver their services in a more flexible and adaptable way. This will create opportunities for small and medium businesses, increase competition amongst government suppliers and make it easier to do business with government,” he said.
This appointment marks the first time the NSW Government has used an independent to provide competitive advantages within the telco sector.
The ICT Services Scheme commenced on March 1 last year with the purpose of offering a panel of prequalified service providers to help NSW Government agencies and other authorised buyers in making decisions across a range of ICT service categories.
