Momentum behind Ethernet fabrics to continue: Brocade

Networking vendor expects growing interest in Software Defined Networking in the coming months

Businesses will continue to pursue public and private Cloud solutions for specific applications within their environments, according to Brocade.

A/NZ country manager, Greig Guy, also expects further interest in the area of Ethernet Fabrics as organisation realise the bottom line benefits for calculating capex or opex.

“These customers will naturally turn to technology partners and implementers that can deliver an active-to-active data centre capability, providing a more resilient and cost-effective solution for business operations,” he said.

“With the level of interest we are experiencing, we can safely say that SDN [Software Defined Networking] and the virtualisation of network functions will determine networking outcomes.”

To back up his claim, Guy pointed to a Gartner forecast that said up to 25 per cent of most mid-to-large datacentres will adopt Ethernet fabrics by 2015.

Datacentre at the forefront

As Brocade comes into 2014, Guy said the networking vendor's position is being strengthened following the acquisition of Vyatta, a company focused on software-based network operating systems and virtualisation, that began in 2012.

“The level of customer engagement and consultation is very high as decision makers determine the next step for their network requirements,” he said.

Guy adds that network file virtualisation and SDN are becoming more common terms among Brocade’s local customer base.

As for what Brocade has in store for this year, Guy said the local focus will remain on the datacentre for both customers and partners.

“We know that data centre availability is a major concern and it is challenging innovation and the wider use of apps and services,” he said.
