Citrix is seeing further interest by organisations to move to an Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) model.
Cloud platforms CTO, Sheng Liang, said this is driven by organisations looking for ways to better deliver the value of the Cloud to employees overall.
“There is a demand for solutions that encompass the entire IT service delivery cycle, which consists of finding the right application and providing it to the user base,” he said.
After some of Citrix’s earlier customers started to have success implementing IaaS, Liang said they realised a lot of the Clouds they built in their datacentre were not having a big impact in organisation’s day-to-day business.
“If you think about it, in most organisations only a small percentage of employees would directly deal with infrastructure, such as developers or system administrators,” he said.
Piece of the Cloud
While infrastructure is important, Liang said it is “only a piece of enabling technology” and a lot of these customers are looking for a way to make their business processes more agile.
“They are always looking at ways to improve the process of provision of applications as quickly as possible to the larger employee base or certain departments,” he said.
Liang adds that Citrix’s initial work in the Cloud space was inspired by Amazon Web Services, as it too provides users with an infrastructure focused Cloud service.
