Consistency in the ICT jobs market is not reflecting rapid business growth or an increase in the available talent that is needed to undertake specialised roles.
The latest Information Technology Contract and Recruitment Association report has revealed real-time data on the state of the Australian ICT employment market which continues to highlight the contradictory nature of the employment landscape.
ITCRA chief executive, Julie Mills, said it was the only real-time data available which painted an interesting picture for clients, candidates and retrospective research commentators.
“That past 12 months have shown the average days to fill most roles is consistently ranging between 16 and 17 days, and the ratio of 70/30 per cent for contract and permanent roles filled becoming a pattern (30 per cent permanent) suggesting there seems to be a slow and steady rhythm for Australia,” she said.
“Although this consistency is a positive trend for contract and recruitment organisations and clients seeking talent, it is not reflecting rapid business growth or an increase in the available talent that is needed to undertake specialised roles.”
Mills said this had an adverse effect on projects and on the potential for Australia to maintain a globally recognised technology sector.
“As the increase in available candidates and the increasing unemployment rate suggests, there will be strong competition for roles and subsequently more frustration for those seeking roles if they are not successful,” she said
“This provides other challenges and opportunities for ICT contract and recruitment organisations to ensuring their candidates are managed and mentored effectively during this continuously shifting marketplace.”
