Next year will see ICT organisations increase their training investment to up-skill staff in project management and business analysis.
That’s according to one of Australia's largest ICT training providers, Dimension Data Learning Solutions, who have identified a growing trend in the way enterprises invest in their ICT workforce.
DDLS chief executive Mal Shaw said this was reinforced by the very specific learning demands from large corporations across 2013.
“Our clients are requesting learning and development programs where the outcomes are more aligned with their business goals in the areas of leadership, customer service and communications,” he said.
“This in turn has led to a realignment of the traditional backroom role of ICT professionals.
“They are now far more front of house and increasingly providing real-time input on the performance of the business and engaging the many departments of their organisations that are now involved in IT decisions.”
According to a company statement, DDLS will be on track to deliver 15,000 certified learning outcomes to a wide range of ICT professionals.
Other trends, based on completed certifications in 2013 and where demand has steadily increased heading into 2014 include technology, telecommunications, finance and education.
Federal and state government will likely continue to be large investors in learning programmes.
Technologies expected to be in high demand will be collaboration, server virtualisation, and database and administration tools. This is due to the ever increasing amounts of data that will need to be managed in the future, and its subsequent analysis and interpretation.
At the higher end there will be increased uptake in intermediate courses as clients look for standardisation for their managing service agreements.
Projects in Controlled Environments, version 2, (PRINCE2) will grow in line with global trends with already more than one million certified professionals globally today.
Cloud will also bring changes to the way that organisations implement IT, so organisations are looking for methodologies and frameworks to manage implementations that follow a best practice approach.
Shaw said Cloud computing meant change and organisations needed to manage the change better.
“There is no better professional to manage IT Service Management and ICT Projects, than an ICT Professional.”
