Miley Cyrus twerks Australian eyeballs

Kevin Rudd, AFL and... Kim Kardashian?

If you like Minecraft, One Direction or Rihanna you are not alone.

And when natural disasters grab Australian eyeballs, Miley Cyrus and Kim Kardashian strike back.

That's according to the latest Yahoo 7 search trend results.

Although celebrities drove the most search queries, topics that impacted the nation showed Australians searching across multiple screens to find news and content.

Miley Cyrus and Kim Kardashian were the most searched female celebrities of 2013, with Justin Bieber and Matt Damon their male counterparts.

Natural disasters were a prominent search topic as Australians kept updated with reports on the Queensland floods and the bushfires in New South Wales.

Politics and the Australian election were a hot topic, with searches for Kevin Rudd proving more popular than searches for the election result.

While sport served up no surprises with the AFL Grand Final, the Ashes and the Australian Open Tennis all jostling for positions in the ranks.

The joker, Novak Djokovic was the most searched athlete.

For the gamers out there, Minecraft was virtually it.

From humble beginnings it became one of the most popular games in the world and reached the top of the list of most popular searches this year.

TV rating juggernaut, the X-Factor, Miley Cyrus, One Direction and Big Brother were also the obvious favourites for many on the web.

On the other side of the world a future King was born, and we Antipodeans went a bit baby crazy. The birth of Prince William and Kate Middleton’s first child, Prince George, made history and stoked Australia's insatiable appetite for news surrounding his birth, placing the little Prince in the top ten.

The sparkle of Rihanna's diamonds and Jennifer Aniston's fleeting dalliance with a pole as a stripper in Meet the Millers rounded out the list.
