Data#3 co-founder and director, Max White, has parted ways with the IT solutions company, to begin a start-up company, Extend Technologies.
After nearly 20 years with Data#3, White said his decision to form the start-up, focussed on reselling SAP solutions, came as Data#3 was moving away from the SAP applications business.
Data#3 last week confirmed it had exited the SAP mid-market application reseller field, but managing director, John Grant, said the company would continue to be an SAP technology partner.
While Data#3 had been reselling SAP since 1997, the company had decided the time had come to change focus, Grant said.
“When we sat down and looked at where SAP is going, they’ve been undecided in terms of their mid market strategy," he said. "They’ve finally launched products for the mid-market, and we looked at that, but there would have been a significant commitment that we would’ve had to make in terms of investment.
“We looked at the options and decided we wanted to be a specialist in technology [development] and recruitment and that we can’t do everything.”
Going forward, Data#3 would also continue to focus on the SAP recruitment business, which it had been building for the last 12 months, Grant said.
Staff who had focused on the SAP reseller business would be reskilled and redeployed within the business, he said.
Grant was pleased with former Data#3 director White’s decision to leave and head up Extend Technologies, which will ostensibly replace Data#3 as a mid-market application reseller for SAP.
With SAP’s launch of SMB products, the time was right for a company that wished to provide ERP solutions to Tier 2 and 3 businesses, White said.
“Extend Technologies was created to sell, service and support integrated business solutions based around SAP,” he said.
With his departure from Data#3 on amicable terms, White said Extend would be speaking to Data#3 about a possible “strategic alliance”.
Extend has hired a team of seven, including Dave Cole, formerly of Logical, who has taken a role as regional sales manager. Headquartered in Sydney, Extend’s geographic coverage will be the same as Data#3, covering NSW, Victoria and Queensland.
