Cisco deploys TelePresence for regional schools

Partners with Telstra to alleviate isolation challenges

Networking vendor, Cisco, has, in partnership with telecommunications provider, Telstra, worked with the Catholic Education Office to implement TelePresence in the Catholic Diocese of Bathurst.

The deployment intends to alleviate regional Australia’s ‘tyranny of distance’, where people in outpost communities have been disadvantaged due to isolation from major centres.

The technology, which is available to all secondary and central schools in the Bathurst region, will enable students to communicate and collaborate with students at different schools, external tutors, and other experts.

It will also be used for professional development and collaboration between teachers and administrators at the participating schools.

Additionally, the technology will allow for a broader scope of courses and subjects to be offered at each campus as it simplifies the sharing of resources between the schools.
