Despite the popularity of buying online, only 38 per cent of Australian SMBs have websites according to latest research by MYOB.
The software vendor’s MYOB Business Monitor research has found that the number has not changed in the last six months, but instead has remained steady.
The survey found that 12 per cent of the 38 per cent have both a business website and a social media platform, which MYOB business division general manager, James Scollay, said is a growing trend.
“On top of the 38 per cent, another eight per cent of SMBs have websites but don’t use social media,” he said.
“This is a new and emerging phenomenon we’re looking at, where businesses are only relying on social media to get their message out there.”
Potentials of the Cloud
Another key result in the survey was that only 16 per cent of SMBs are using Cloud computing.
Scollay describes that as “a low figure”, but the expectation is that it will grow.
“More than 50 per cent of our customers in A/NZ are taking up Cloud solutions, which is massive growth,” he said.
“But we’re not seeing it in terms of perception businesses seeing themselves using Cloud for business.”
Scollay said the resport is showing a “clear joining of the dots” when it comes to technology usage and success.
“The companies that use both business web sites and social media, they are 63 per cent more likely to see their business revenues grow in the next 12 months,” he said.
When it comes to companies using Cloud computing, the report found that 50 per cent are more likely to see their business grow in the same time frame.
