Megatec, the Australian distributor of WRQ's PC connectivity and management software, has launched the latest version of a software management tool that offers information on licence compliance and software expenses.
The software, WRQ Express Meter 3.6, was originally designed to assist companies in preventing computer piracy by providing information on licence compliance.
It can also be used to assist in discovering the scope of a company's 2000 problem.
It reveals which applications are being used within a company and, once company Y2K policy has been established, the product allows the company to restrict the use of applications, or make them inaccessible to users.
Paul Davis, WRQ's market manager for software management, said the tool lets IT managers check the usage levels of applications, as well as their licence status, by providing a report rather than raw data. He said: "We use metering data and inventory data to a higher financial purpose rather than keeping it trapped at the technical level."
A Megatec spokesperson said the company was negotiating with several financial institutions and also with government bodies, both state and federal, including educational bodies.
