A final decision is imminent as to whether FreightCorp will outsource significant IT operations, including network management and applications development.
An IT outsourcing plan for FreightCorp - the NSW state-owned rail freight corporation - has been approved by the corporation's executive management committee.
The plan has agreement, in principle, from FreightCorp's board and is due to go before the board for final approval over the next few weeks.
Peter Enderby, information technology manager, FreightCorp, said: "I would expect a document, probably an expression of interest, to be on the market within two months."
Enderby said that FreightCorp is putting together the business case for outsourcing certain IT functions.
"We are looking at outsourcing the arms and legs, but not the head," he said, explaining that FreightCorp will keep certain core functions in-house.
