Melbourne Health replaces own BI system with QlikView

Healthcare organisations to use Business Discovery platform to improve patient outcomes

Healthcare provider, Melbourne Health, has adopted QlikView’s Business Discovery platform to further harness its existing data.

The Business Intelligence (BI) soloution will be used to improve operational performance and healthcare delivery, such as carrying out informed decisions about patients health services.

Melbourne Health staff and project director chief, Anna McFadgen, said the provider was unable to obtain the necessary level of business insight via its original and home grown BI solution.

“The organisation needs to access a range of real-time information on a regular basis which includes information related to patient activity, financial performance and quality and safety indicators to name a few,” she said.

“In the past, this could take hours to compile, and the data pulled was often not up-to-date, or at a sufficient level of detail for managers to make informed decisions about their departments.”

Deeper insight

With Melbourne Health serving more than one million Victorians across metropolitan and rural regions, McFadgen said a replacement solution such as QlikView was needed to keep up with the exponential growth of data.

Following implementation, the organisation now makes use of real-time information accompanied by sophisticated analyses.

“After only recently implementing QlikView, our clinical managers already have increased visibility into the performance of their units,” McFadgen said.

Melbourne Health’s 8000 healthcare workers can now compare the performance of clinical units within their division against key performance indicators.

“With its great granularity of data, QlikView provides the insight and empowerment needed to make well-informed business decisions,” McFadgen said.

“We’re excited to see what further performance improvements the solution can bring the organisation.”
