Updated: Microsoft names Australian Surface partners

Ingram Micro and Synnex are the two Surface Pro and RT distributors for Australia.

Microsoft has revealed the list of partners that will have access to selling its Surface RT and Pro tablets in the Australian market.

It has selected a designated group of 13 commercial partners including Brennan IT, Computelec, Computer Systems Australia, Data#3, Datacom Systems, Dimension Data, Ensyst, e-Volve Corporate Technology, Insight, Staples, Stott & Hoare Business Computers, Somerville Group and Triforce Australia.

Ingram Micro and Synnex have been appointed as the two distributors in Australia.

In a blog, Microsoft Australia Windows business group director, Tina Flammer, said partners were selected based on geographical reach, device selling expertise and commercial value-added services capabilities.

“In addition to offering Microsoft’s extended warranty and accidental damage, these resellers bring a variety of value-added services to the Surface family including asset tagging, custom imaging, kitting, onsite service and support, device recycling, and data protection,” Flammer said.

Data#3 group general manager, Laurence Baynham, said it had been looking forward to getting its hands on the Surface for the Australian market, and it extends its current offerings to its client base.

"We've got millions of dollars invested in integration centres, warehouses and supply chain software so we can enable those devices and get them ready for delivery to customers," he said. "The Microsoft Surface device has created a lot of interest."

Baynham highlighted two points of differentiation that Data#3 has in the market. Firstly pointing out there wasn't another partner that had integration centres throughout the country, nor one that had invested in online supply chain systems.

In July, Data#3 picked up the 2013 Microsoft Devices and Deployment (Desktop) Partner of the Year Award for its submission – Driving Windows 8 Adoption.

"Having the Surface option will provide another differentiator and we'll be bundling it with a number of services-led projects," he said. "It will be incremental and beneficial to our business."
