Not-for-profit ecommerce and supply chain management solutions provider, GS1 Australia, has launched an online portal designed to improve patient safety by streamlining the management of product recall and non-recall notifications.
The Recallnet Healthcare solution was launched today with the support of the National E-Health Transition Authority (NEHTA) at GS1’s Supply Chain Week 2013 in Sydney. Presenting the product were GS1 CEO, Maria Palazzolo; NEHTA CEO, Peter Fleming; Health Purchasing Victoria information services director, Martin Edwards; and ArjoHuntleigh A/NZ quality, regulatory, environmental and health officer, Karen O’Donnell.
Recallnet Healthcare has been in development for three years, with contributions from NEHTA, the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), state and territory health departments and a number of hardware suppliers.
“By committing to one standardised program, Australian healthcare organisations will ensure the recall of products is as efficient, consistent and immediate as possible,” Fleming said.
By providing an electronic product recall notification management system in the Australian healthcare sector, GS1 hopes the service will improve patient safety by enhancing the speed, efficiency and accuracy of the recall process for therapeutic goods.
It also promises to reduce the costs for issuing and enacting product recalls while minimising errors and re-work. In addition, it aims to decrease the time to respond to recalls while increasing visibility of the process across the chain.
Users will be able to create recall and non-recall notifications following the uniform recall procedure for therapeutic goods guidelines and to submit recall notifications to the TGA for review and approval.
Last month, GS1 was credited for its GoScan smartphone and tablet application, and won the national Consumer iAward as a result.
