Telecommunications provider, Optus, has appointed Vic McClelland to lead its Networks business as managing director.
Commencing November 4, McClelland will be in charge of strategic investment in mobile infrastructure and the day-to-day running of fixed, mobile and satellite networks.
“Vic will build on the leadership and momentum Optus has achieved through recent network upgrades and expansions,” Optus consumer Australia CEO, Kevin Russell, said. “There is however still much to be done to ensure all our customers get the best possible network experience each and every day.”
In commenting on his appointment, McClelland said he is excited to return home and get started on the next phase of rolling out Optus’ multiband 4G network.
McClelland joins Optus Networks from Ericsson where he worked as Internet services technology strategy vice-president from Silicon Valley.
He has also spent time at Vodafone Hutchison Australia as head of technology strategy and planning, and with Hutchison Telecommunications Australia as chief technical officer.
McClelland will report directly to Russell.
