ICT vendor and services provider, Huawei, will increase Australian procurement by 10 per cent this year, and is hoping to attract local ICT suppliers following recent workshops.
“From 2007 to May 2013, Huawei procured products and services worth more than $US513 million from Australian suppliers,” Huawei Australia chief technology officer (CTO), Peter Rossi, said.
“Huawei’s total spend on Australian procurement rose from $US36m in 2010 to over $US136m in 2012, and we’re aiming to grow that by a further 10 per cent in 2013.”
Huawei currently works with 214 local suppliers. Between 2010 and 2013 its purchase volume grew at an average annual rate of 56.28 per cent, while its global average sat at 13.8 per cent.
Two workshops took place this week in Sydney and Melbourne, where the company addressed more than 100 registered attendees from a diverse range of suppliers.
Delegates included smartphone chipset designers, mobile app start-ups, systems integrators (SI), Big Data analytics, Cloud service providers, solar-power companies, augmented-reality developers, and more.
Once this set of workshops are complete, Huawei’s global procurement team will assess potential partnerships with companies in attendance, connecting the local ICT suppliers with the right business units inside the vendor’s global operations.
