Vodafone increases 4G play

Opens up 4G offering across Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Wollongong, Gold Coast and Newcastle.

Vodafone is opening up its 4G network to new customers across metropolitan Australia, a month after launching to existing customers.

Vodafone, Chief Network Officer, Benoit Hanssen, said the network’s 20MHz wide-band spectrum holdings meant it could offer customers some of the fastest speeds available covering Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth, as well as Wollongong, Gold Coast and Newcastle.

“Vodafone is currently the only carrier that has this spectrum band in all five major mainland state capital cities,” he said.

By the end of the year, Vodafone plans to triple the number of 4G network sites, Hanssen said.

“We have also announced a significant network expansion in regional Australia and a doubling of the size of our Australian call centre,” he said.

Vodafone’s 4G network builds on its significant investment in its 3G+ and 3G networks during the past 18 months.
