Applications performance vendor Packeteer is offering free product training to its channel partners in an attempt to generate good will and increase sales. More than 80 Australian engineers have completed the course since it started in August and the vendor now plans to continue the scheme until June.
"Building channel knowledge is important to Packeteer because it puts resellers in a better position to identify opportunities. [By completing our training course], they have been able to gain a better understanding of how our technology fits into their offerings," said Peter Owen, territory manager for Packeteer, Australia/NZ.
"It means that our partners can introduce the product to customers without needing Packeteer to hold their hands along the way. From our side it means more people are in the field promoting the products. Once a partner gets a customer into the evaluation process, we have an 80 per cent closure rate."
The training has so far been conducted by Packeteer and hosted by its distributors, Express Data and LAN Systems, in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth. A session is scheduled for Canberra in the New Year.
The two-day Level One Certification course, which covers the PacketShaper traffic management system and the AppCelera content acceleration products, costs a channel partner approximately $1,800. Packeteer may offer Level Two Certification free of charge to partners sometime next year.
