BPCS software distributor SSA Pacific has opened its own office in Adelaide following the defection of its local affiliate to industry rival BCM Systems. The office, launched by South Australia's industry minister Graeme Ingerson last month, will have an initial staff of five although this is expected to double within six months.
In September this year, BCM Systems, which distributes MOVEX, a rival to the BPCS Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software, announced it had bought SSA's Adelaide affiliate ISG Computing.
However, SSA Pacific managing director Graeme Cooksley claims the company already had plans for a direct presence even before ISG jumped the fence. "We felt that Adelaide had a lot more potential than was being realised," he said. "We had been talking to them (ISG Computing) for some considerable time about going direct in some form. We were getting customer demand, they said 'you had better come here direct because we want your support'."
