BroadVision simplifies Web management

BroadVision will add more muscle to its retail e-commerce offering, Retail Commerce Suite, with the addition of a Merchandising Workbench, support for mobile devices, Java 2 Enterprise Edition-compliance, and an integrated call-centre offering.

The Merchandising Workbench enables business managers to easily make changes to retail Web sites.

"Merchandisers have not been doing merchandising on the Web because it requires IT intervention," said Kimberly Simpson, director of industry marketing at San Francisco-based BroadVision. "This allows merchandisers to make changes on the fly."

Merchandising Workbench gives business managers their own interface that allows them to check inventory levels and product attributes. They can also add attributes such as size or colour and create bundles of products to be sold together as part of special offers.

The thin-client tool shows business managers a chart with fields including the product name, an image of the product, the offering price, and inventory levels.

BroadVision has also added a mobile component to its Retail Commerce Suite through a new partnership with Brience, a provider of enterprise software and services that enable mobile devices.

Mobile support includes simplified navigation because it optimises Web sites for any device and offers personalisation content for any device.

Finally, the mobile support in Version 6.0 of BroadVision's Retail Commerce Suite enables retailers to send a consistent message across all channels with the same data, rules, and services available, company executives said.

Through its existing partnership with Genesys Telecommunications Laboratories, BroadVision is now offering a packaged application that enables real-time data exchange and live personalised interaction between end-users and customer service representatives in the call centre.
