After helping to establish Sweetwater's market presence, Philip Tran has relinquished his role as the company's general manager. However, he will continue to play a consultative role within the recently emerged aggregator, and said he was in regular contact with Sweetwater manager Abbas Aly.
"I was never looking at a long-term role as general manager at Sweetwater," Tran told ARN. "My role was in setting up the company and making sure it ran. Now it is up and running very well."
Tran told ARN he was looking to move away from the hardware industry, although he would continue to work with Sweetwater for the time being.
"I have been in hardware such a long time," Tran said. "I am just taking a break at the moment and looking at my options. I am still involved with Sweetwater."
Sweetwater manager Abbas Aly has moved to assure the company's channel partners that Tran's departure from the general manager role will not result in any changes to the company's approach.
"We are still supporting our resellers with a very aggressive advertising campaign," Aly said. "We have an advertising agency working with us and we intend to continue supporting our resellers."
According to Aly, Tran assisted Sweetwater to build up a presence in the Australian OEM market, however he believes the company is well positioned to continue to grow in his absence.
"Tran came on board to help set up the business," Aly said. "He is now looking at pursuing his own path. I am still in regular contact with him and I will consult him on an ongoing basis."Photograph: Philip Tran
