Managed and e-business services provider SMS Management and Technology (formally Sausage Software) has been named the first fully accredited bolero.net consulting partner in Australia and New Zealand. bolero.net provides a standardised platform for the transfer of commercial information across international borders. Launched in 1998 under the stewardship of SWIFT (Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication) and the TT Club (insurer of ship operators, stevedores, terminal and depot operators, around the world) bolero.net provides subscribers with access to an international electronic messaging and title transfer system.
As part of the new agreement SMS will provide services to bolero.net members in order to convert their existing EDI and paper-based systems to the streamlined bolero.net approach.
According to Matt Miller, director of enterprise solutions at SMS Management & Technology the deal will bring a significant amount of new business, however he said that SMS would continue to gain most of its revenues from traditional areas.
"bolero.net has a sales strategy in Australia that is concentrating on the mining and metals and then moving into other fields," Miller said. "It was a hard deal to crack, bolero were very selective and we had to prove out capability in the professional services arena."
Miller also believes the new deal will provide leverage to increase recognition of SMS on international markets.
"It is hard to know how much the deal will be worth for SMS, the bolero.net system is already very popular in Northern Asia, North America and Europe and we believe it will do quite well here," Miller said.
