Global telecommunications company Cable & Wireless PLC has announced it will supply media giant News Corporation with global telecommunications services worth approximately $100 million over the next three years.
The services will be used by News Corp companies worldwide such as News International, HarperCollins, STAR TV and News Ltd (Australia). They will range from voice to data and Internet services and will be used to support News Corp's development of an integrated packet-switched network to support voice, video, data and Internet services.
"Currently the services are many and varied," said Brian Copeman, regional sales director (Europe) for Cable & Wireless PLC. "We do a lot of voice [over Internet Protocol] in Europe and other parts of Asia. Services vary by different geographies."
In the United Kingdom, News Corp will supply voice services to News International publications, including The Times. Voice and data services will be used to support newspapers under News Ltd in Australia, and STAR TV in Hong Kong.
