More than 100 independent retailers in Hawaiian shirts descended on the sleepy Queensland town of Coolum last month for the annual Leading Edge conference - and the inhabitants are still wondering what hit them.
The sunshine coast is becoming somewhat of a Mecca for the retailing fraternity, it seems. A week before the national conference, the halls of the Hyatt were filled with Harvey Norman franchisees and their suppliers. Tabloid understands staff at the Hyatt Coolum were at pains to make sure the two groups passed each other as ships in the night.
But in those Hawaiian shirts it was hard to mistake the Leading Edge crowd. And the attire tied in well with the festivities, which included fire twirling and snake handling!
