Vodafone introduces new tablet-friendly data plans

Plans in response to skyrocketing popularity of tablets

Telecommunications company, Vodafone, has introduced competitive new data plans starting at $20 for 2.5GB of data on its 4G network.

"That means if you have a 4G-ready device, you will be able to use it in areas across Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth; and major centres including Newcastle, Wollongong and the Gold Coast,” Vodafone chief marketing officer, Kim Clarke, said.

“The number of 4G network sites we had when we launched in June will triple by the end of 2013.” According to Clarke, the company launched the new plans in response to the popularity of tablets amongst Australians as well as the increasing number of Australians owning more than one device.

"Some 4.4 million people already access the Internet using a tablet and that number is increasing at an astonishing rate. People love the convenience of tablets and being able to access information, anywhere, anytime. We want to make sure our tablet and data plans are affordable,” she claimed.

Clarke also mentioned the popularity and speeds available on 4G networks could lead to a rise in data consumption – something Vodafone claims to be educating its customers about.

"Vodafone's tablet plans are charged per kilobyte, so you only pay for the data you use. We also offer Vodafone Alerts and the added protection of our Data Booster coverage which helps protect customers from bill shock,” she added.

Vodafone also offers a range of options for customers including a tablet on a 24-month plan; an outright tablet on a month-to-month plan; as well as a BYO tablet on a month-to-month plan.
