DAMsmart to implement content management for Olympic Council of Asia

Audiovisual digitisation company selected for the project following digitisation of existing footage

The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) has selected DAMsmart for the task of implementing a media asset management (MAM) system for its archival footage.

The Canberra-based audiovisual digitisation company plans to deliver the system using Squarebox’s CatDV MAM software, which enables collection access and control.

DAMsmart business manager, Adam Hodgkinson, said OCA’s MAM project is a significant one for the provider, as it will incorporate all aspects of its service offering.

“From relocating the collection half way around the world, to database creation for richer metadata, it will use our flexible and highly productive encoding workflows and draw on our extensive technical capabilities as we implement the MAM solution,” he said.

Preserving sporting history

DAMsmart was initially responsible for digitising OCA’s video collection in late 2012, which consisted of approximately 13,000 hours of archival footage covering several decades of sanctioned sporting events in Asia.

OCA’s collection was temporarily moved to DAMsmart’s Canberra facility from the sporting body’s headquarters in Kuwait, where SD content was digitised into IMX50 files while HD content was converted into XDCAM files.

OCA IT manager, Amer El Alami, said DAMsmart was selected for the digitisation based on its credentials.

“Unlike many who claim to be experts, DAMsmart has a proven track record that demonstrates their versatility, their ability to deliver and their professionalism, which gave us the confidence to appoint them as our partner,” he said.

DAMsmart will first ingest the digitised content before returning the prepopulated MAM back to Kuwait, which is expected to be completed in mid 2013.

After the system is delivered to the sporting body, DAMsmart will also be responsible for preparing the OCA team in system operations and providing ongoing support.
