ASX-listed IT&e's product distribution arm, Chips has been commissioned by Palm Computing to extend the handheld vendor's market penetration in Australia.
Chips will take on the whole Palm product range, including the Palm m100, m105, Palm IIIxe, Palm IIIc and the top of the range Palm Vx. It will also distribute a range of Palm accessories such as portable keyboards, cases and travel kits.
"The combination of Chips' channels into corporate markets, our IT reseller network and the support of IT&e's e-commerce links, offer growth potential for what we believe is the world's leading handheld brand," says Dean Wilson, executive director of IT&e.
Chips has recently undergone a major restructure, including realignment of its sales and marketing activities throughout Australia. The recent appointment of Mandy Bowles as national group manager for sales and marketing underpins Chips' move to a market focused system.
Under Bowles' direction, three new groups have been set up to tackle these markets. They are; professional products - to target corporate and professional users; mass retail - to cover national resellers, major retail outlets and large group buyers; and local retail - for local retail outlets, shopfront resellers, PC assemblers, systems integrators and consultants.
